In 2019 Stockton SEED was the first ever Mayoral led city-wide guaranteed income pilot in the country, eventually leading to the creation of Mayor’s for Guaranteed Income (MGI). Now numbering over 100+ cities around the country, MGI helped catalyze the newly formed Counties for Guaranteed Income (CGI), which will work at the county level across the country to ensure that all Americans have an income floor.
Through our work, we envision California communities that are protected from the impacts of natural hazards; have equitable access to financial, relational, and political resources so they can mitigate, adapt to, prepare for, respond to, and recover from hazard events; and benefit socioeconomically from a just transition.

Across Northern California, historically Black and other people of color neighborhoods are working to reverse and repair decades of community removals and neglect, while facing ongoing pressures that threaten resident and business displacement. These communities have initiated reparative and inclusive economic and community development efforts along commercial corridors that center the culture, values and history

Investing in youth to successfully navigate their recovery from the harms of COVID-19 is a key principle of NCG’s Equitable Recovery Framework. This summer, Northern California Grantmakers began supporting the work of the Generational Recovery Fund (GRF), a pooled fund dedicated to the recovery of Bay Area youth, with a focus on supporting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color youth.
