We want to extend our deepest gratitude for Alan Kwok for serving as NCG’s and Philanthropy California’s Director of Climate and Disaster Resilience for the past four years. Alan will transition to the new role of Senior Advisor beginning February 2023. Underscoring NCG’s deepening commitment to advancing equity in climate and disaster resilience, we will be growing the team, bringing on a new Climate and Disaster Resilience Director to continue the work.

Northern California Grantmakers joins with The San Francisco Arts Commission and the arts community to mourn the unexpected death of Ebony McKinney. The San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) will be holding an informal get together in honor of McKinney this afternoon, Thursday, Aug. 3 at SOMArts from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A local memorial is expected to be held at a later date.

Recently, Dwayne Marsh, CEO of Northern California Grantmakers, and I were reflecting on how many foundations in our memberships are looking to change direction and move toward racial equity. Yet our ways of communicating often exclude the one-in-six adults in America with a sensory or communication disability, including people who are Deaf or hard of hearing, blind or low-vision, have speech or intellectual disabilities, and many more.
