Announcing Liana Molina as Director for Policy and Movement
NCG is excited to announce Liana Molina (she/her) as its first-ever Director for Policy and Movement. As a part of the Public Affairs team, Liana oversees NCG’s work building mechanisms for movement-building groups to shape philanthropic transformation. Liana brings a wealth of experience as a strategist advancing social, racial, and economic justice campaigns.
The newly transformed position aims to build philanthropy’s consciousness around the central role of community-based organizations in facilitating a vibrant democracy, while also building connections between philanthropy, government, and nonprofits. Liana will focus on transforming practice and investments to build power in communities most impacted by racial inequities. Liana will also reimagine funder advocacy opportunities as it relates to democracy for local, regional, and statewide elections in 2024.
“Liana’s expertise as an organizer, campaign strategist, and coalition-builder will push NCG in its next evolution,” said NCG’s Senior Director of Public Affairs Qurratulain “Q” Sajid. “We are thrilled to have such a strategic thinker and doer on our team.”
Liana’s passion for social change work is rooted in her experience growing up in El Paso, Texas on the US - Mexico border, her family history, formative years in college, living in deep east Oakland, her spiritual beliefs and a strong desire to serve a greater purpose in life.
When asked about the potential of this role and her vision for the sector Liana shared, “ultimately, our society needs to move from an extractive economy and social system that exploits land and labor to a regenerative system that helps restore our environment and supports ordinary, working-class folks. There is an important role philanthropy can play in resourcing regenerative systems and practices.” Liana’s direct experience leading campaigns and coalitions building political power for historically marginalized residents and local CBOs will support NCG’s evolving policy work.
