The California Criminal Justice Funders Group is an established statewide network of funders and donors that invest in a wide range of systems change. The Funding Strategies to Accelerate Power-building Cohort is learning and collaboration community of practice that will help philanthropic grantmakers sharpen their power-building strategies by engaging in 501c(4) and complementary 501c(3) funding. A core premise is that these types of grantmaking strategies (which NCG calls “c4-aligned funding”) can accelerate movement building and systems-change goals, strengthen our democracy, and advance racial equity.

However, it is groups disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, including rural, historically underserved, and BIPOC communities, that need to secure the funding that will have a generational impact on community climate resilience, public health, and other crucial systems.

We must prioritize the wellbeing of our nonprofit workforce if we want to succeed in advancing our social justice and racial equity agenda. Our dedicated, passionate nonprofit workforce needs adequate rest and repair to sustain themselves, and continue their work for the long term.
