From tax credit proposals to reforms in safety net programs, there are critical policy levers California can and should implement now so that all Californians can have the resources needed to live and thrive in the Golden State.
The Bay Area Housing for All regional bond will unlock $10 – 20 billion dollars to build and preserve more than 72,000 affordable homes across 9 Bay Area counties, meeting the urgency and scale of our housing crisis. Over the past few months, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) and Association of Bay Area Governments have been holding pivotal public meetings to hear from organizations and community members and inform the bond’s expenditure plans. BAHFA will meet
again on June 26th for their final vote to approve plans and determine whether to place the housing measure on the November 2024 ballot.
The recently finalized “public charge” rule forces families to choose between basic necessities, such as food, housing, and health care, and their future. NCG is proud to join 25 other California foundations in signing a letter urging the entire philanthropic community in California to join us in our recommitment to creating the inclusive California we know is possible, and to support advocacy and direct services organizations fighting to create safe and thriving communities across our state in the face of this new “public charge” rule. Northern California Grantmakers. We are led by a whose North Star is racial equity internally and externally. We listen to our members, movement groups, and other stakeholders to consider an intersectional racial analysis for a more equitable future. We fully acknowledge that how we do what we do matters.
We will explore the ABFE approach to grantmaking with a racial equity lens. ABFE's framework, analysis, and tools provide opportunities for grantmakers to support Black communities, and, more broadly, our greater society. ABFE has created a set of tools that reduce gaps in racial disparities facing Blacks in the United States. By centering systemic anti-Black racism within an intersectional framework through which we understand the social, economic, historical, and cultural dimensions of human life, we can conduct grantmaking practices that address inequities across communities.
