Data has proven to be a vital ingredient in furthering racial and economic equity in the Bay Area. However, not all local organizations have the capacity to leverage data-driven insights and tools to drive solutions forward and achieve equitable outcomes.
Launched in 2019, the Youth Power Fund is a network of foundations and individual donors committed to creating more equitable, just, and effective social, economic, and political systems in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.
One of the core values of a trust-based approach is to work for systemic equity, which should include a focus on racial equity. And while trust-based philanthropy and racial equity work are not identical nor interchangeable, both work hand-in-hand to advance a vision for a more just and equitable nonprofit sector. In short, a racial equity lens is needed in order to fully embody trust-based philanthropy, and trust-based philanthropy is a helpful framework to actualize racial equity within philanthropy. Through our policy work, we aim to ensure the laws and policies governing the philanthropic ecosystem maximize the delivery of social good, expand economic security for individuals, families, and communities, advance and promote the rights of historically marginalized communities including communities of color, low-income communities, and immigrants and refugees in Northern California.

This sixth and final session of the Foundations of Racial Equity series explores Equity in the Center's “Awake to Woke to Work: Building a Race Equity Culture” publication and framework. Equity in the Center’s research is designed to support leaders as they build and expand their organization’s capacity to advance race equity and transform their culture. In these modules, we’ll engage in a critical conversation on the cases, tactics, and tools that will drive action to combat structural racism in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector.
