Join us in welcoming Gina Peralta to the CCJFG Steering Committee! Gina Peralta is a program officer with the Human Rights program at the Heising-Simons Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2019, Gina served as the director of site management at The W. Haywood Burns Institute (the Burns Institute), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing racial and ethnic equity in the justice system by creating community-based alternatives to system involvement.
The recently finalized “public charge” rule forces families to choose between basic necessities, such as food, housing, and health care, and their future. This third session of the Foundations of Racial Equity Series focuses on the importance of healing justice as a strategy, framework, and way of being within philanthropic institutions. The session will focus on internal organizational practices and external opportunities for philanthropy to resource healing justice strategies.
In this fourth session of the Foundations of Racial Equity series, we will deepen our understanding and awareness of how our identities impact our work. We will practice discussing experiences of identity, which is out of pattern for most workplaces. In the two modules of this session, participants will engage in conversation and activities to link their identity to their experience of culture and operations within their organizations.
Governor Newsom has embarked on a massive $380M expansion of the decrepit 171-year-old San Quentin State Prison, leveraging co-opted language from the criminal justice reform movement in an attempt to rebrand the facility as a beacon of rehabilitation. Currently and formerly incarcerated leaders have developed actionable plans for improving conditions and honoring the dignity of people inside without wasting millions on prison infrastructure.
