The LSFN Public Interest Law Bar Fellowship was designed in the Spring of 2020, early in the COVID-19 pandemic, to address the emergent capacity needs of Bay Area Legal Services Organizations as well as May 2020 graduates of Bay Area law schools, who were faced with a delay in their ability to take the California Bar Exam.

New organizations emerged in response to COVID-19, 2020’s racial reckoning, and to meet the rising needs and service gaps in communities. Many of these organizations are led by BIPOC leaders, have small budgets, small teams, and are often fiscally sponsored. What do these emerging organizations need for long term sustainability?
