Mission Investing Institute

Mission Investors Exchange (MIE), in partnership with National Center for Family Philanthropy, Northern California Grantmakers, and SoCal Grantmakers, is pleased to offer its signature introductory learning program. Through both virtual sessions and a two-day experience at The California Endowment in Los Angeles, California, our Institute helps philanthropy professionals get started in impact investing or advance their practice. Participants learn from leading impact investing professionals, network with industry peers, and apply learnings with fellow philanthropy and finance professionals.

Building a Thriving Region: Moving to Action Roundtable

“We are the ones we have been waiting for” is true for almost everything we do in our fight for equity and justice here in the Bay Area and beyond. As we seek to dismantle some of the inequitable and short-sighted funding practices of philanthropy, the same sentiment is true. Many community leaders across Northern California have been calling for a system shift for decades. And now is the time to take action.

Strengthening Democracy and Building Black Futures

As we mark another Black History Month and celebrate Black futures, there is an urgency for us to address the existing divisions in our country and create solutions that move us closer towards our vision of a strong, inclusive, multiracial democracy with Black communities at the center. Some of the barriers we continue to see in communities across the nation include attacks on voting rights, biased immigration policies, blatant displays of white supremacy and white nationalism, and a decline inequitable economic opportunities.

We know that using data to inform education policy strategies dramatically increases college access and success in post-secondary education. Many states across the country have set statewide attainment goals, and we can now learn from those case studies. In partnership with Philanthropy California, we invite you to learn about statewide and national education policy efforts that have increased educational attainment and completion for California’s most vulnerable student populations.

Funders for Climate Equity July Meeting

The NCG Funders for Climate Equity network is a collaboration with Smart Growth California and the League of California Community Foundations. We invite funders who are interested in or are already funding at the intersection of climate justice and resilience to join us and to share and provide input as we collectively learn and take action on critical climate justice challenges and opportunities. Discussion topics in the group will focus on intersectional issues relating to climate justice, as well as philanthropic and community-based practices and trends relevant to northern California’s 48-county region. We also welcome topical and tactical feedback from funders as we improve this group.

California Black Freedom Fund, the National Center for the Preservation of Democracy (the Democracy Center) at Japanese American National Museum, and Philanthropy California are hosing Shared Pathways to Heal, Repair, and Liberate.

As we work towards our vision of an inclusive, multiracial democracy, there is much to gain from sharing and exploring our parallel and interwoven fights for liberation and civil rights in this country.
