Chief Operating Officer
East Bay Community Foundation (EBCF), one of the nation’s first community foundations, has been a driving force for racial equity and social justice since its founding in 1928. Based in Oakland, a vibrant city celebrated for its diversity and legacy of social justice, EBCF manages over $600 million in assets and provides leadership in grantmaking, impact investing, and donor services throughout Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Named the nation’s “boldest” community foundation in 2019 by Inside Philanthropy, EBCF is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and just East Bay by supporting innovative programs and partnerships that ensure everyone has the freedom to dream, heal, and belong.
EBCF seeks a dynamic and visionary Chief Operating Officer (COO) to drive operational excellence and strategic impact. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, the COO will modernize systems, champion cross-functional collaboration, guide critical change initiatives, and oversee core functions such as Human Resources, Facilities, IT, and Board engagement. This role offers the opportunity to help scale impact during an exciting period of growth and transformation.
The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of senior operational management experience, preferably within the nonprofit or philanthropic sectors. They must demonstrate a strong track record in leading cross-functional administrative or operational teams, including HR, IT, and facilities. This individual will have demonstrated organizational leadership and the capability to manage high-performing teams, enhance operations, and spearhead complex change initiatives. They should be both confident and approachable, serving as a trusted partner to the CEO and effectively representing their voice when necessary.
EBCF is looking for someone with a proven track record of building effective, data-driven systems that promote operational excellence and continuous improvement, all while striking a wonderful balance in supporting a high-performance and accountable culture. The COO will work closely with
the CEO to ensure that daily operations align seamlessly with the Foundation’s mission to create an inclusive, fair, and just East Bay. This is an amazing opportunity for a collaborative, innovative, and results-oriented leader who truly embodies a deep passion and commitment to racial equity and

The salary range is $200,000–$225,000, with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, retirement savings, professional development, and generous PTO.
