Tax Equity Series - Session 3: Post-Election Discussion & 2025 Planning

The tax code is one of the largest tools federal, state, and local governments can use to provide families with economic security and wealth-building opportunities. Yet the tax code systematically disadvantages women, people of color, immigrants, and low-income families. On behalf of Blue Shield of California Foundation, the Tax Equity Funders Network, Northern California Grantmakers, the Asset Funders Network, and the League of California Community Foundations, we invite you to the second, three-part virtual learning and discussion series for California funders on improving economic security, wealth- building opportunities, and equity for low-income Californians through the tax code.

Join us to explore how, as funders, we might increase our alignment and impact as we leverage the tools of our tax systems to undo historic race, ethnic, gender, and ability discrimination and provide avenues for low- and moderate-income families and communities to flourish.

The fall series is designed to build on the successes of the first series offered in the spring and explore opportunities for greater funder alignment and joint action on key topics.

  •  Session 1 – Seizing the Opportunity: Direct File – In this session, we will discuss the how we can use the Direct File tax filing innovation to ensure that communities that have previously been left out are engaged this tax season. (October 11, 11:00 - 12:30 PT)
  • Session 2 – Benefit Access & Economic Security for Immigrants – In this session, we will discuss the capacity needed in communities to ensure immigrants can access benefits, including tax benefits, that support economic security and opportunity. (October 28, 11:00 - 12:30 PT)
  • Session 3 – The New Context: Federal and State Election Outcomes – In this session, we will discuss the impact of the election outcomes and set the stage for 2025 learning opportunities and activities for philanthropy. (December 5, 9:00 - 10:00 PT)

Please use this link to register for the virtual series and to answer some brief questions about your work as a funder in the tax equity and access ecosystem. The results of this registration survey will be shared with other participants in the Series so they can learn more about your work. This program is for funders and philanthropic advisors whose primary activity is grantmaking. Staff from philanthropic networks are also eligible to join.
