This program is presented through a partnership between Philanthropy California and the
California Office of Emergency Services and is funded by the Listos California Grant Program.
Don’t be intimidated by program evaluation or logic models! They use specialized language, but
they are descriptions of very practical and down-to-earth realities about your program, such as
clearly describing what your program will do, counting how many people you served, or
listening to people describe how they were impacted by your program activities.
A board chair transition is an important moment for a family philanthropy, often prompting larger decisions or a revisiting of the organization’s purpose and practices. All members of the board have a role to play in preparing for and managing these inevitable leadership shifts and need clarity about the strategies that will prepare the organization—family, staff, and other stakeholders—for the potential changes to come. What are the qualities and competencies that a successful board chair should embody, and what does the selection process entail? What are common challenges and opportunities that arise during the change management process? How does next-generation engagement, family legacy, and succession planning play a role? Whether you’re in the midst of a transition now, are preparing for an eventual shift, or haven’t yet considered this process, join this webinar to learn more about board chair succession planning.

Kim Williams, Hub Manager at Sacramento Building Healthy Communities (Sacramento BHC, a part of The California Endowment's Building Health Communities 10-year plan) spoke with Crispin Delgado NCG's Public Policy Director, about where philanthropy can continue to step in, how to take a community-centered approach, and why movement-building needs to be at the center. Since 2020, many funders have embraced new ways of interacting with their nonprofit partners and grappled with how to shift the grantmaking power imbalance. Reporting is no exception. Funders have started to deeply consider grantee partners' work when reporting on their efforts in relationship with the grant dollars they receive.
It is with great sadness that NCG announces the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Jenny Chinn. Jenny joined the team 18 years ago and held the longest tenure of anyone ever to have worked at NCG. During that time, she became the backbone of the organization – a steady, cheerful source of support for everyone who got to work with her. Her official title was Senior Operations Manager, but we often referred to her as our office mom.
