In the fall of 2007, Northern California Grantmakers (in partnership with Southern California Grantmakers and San Diego Grantmakers) commissioned the Foundation Center to conduct two studies on diversity in philanthropy in California. The first of these studies examined the extent to which grantmaking by large California foundations serves populations of color. All around the country, philanthropy is mobilizing to ensure a fair and accurate census 2020. As your foundation is considering how it may engage, the Funders Census Initiative (FCI), a working group of FCCP, and the United Philanthropy Forum have put together a menu of options for funder participation.
In our two-day Full Cost workshop, funders and nonprofits worked together to explore some of the Full Cost tips and strategies that can work for them. This hands-on training provided a unique space for leaders and staff on both sides of the funding equation to break down barriers and learn together. Over the course of the workshop, participants followed a case study organization and learned to analyze financial statements with a Full Cost mind-set in order to arrive at a Full Cost assessment for the case study.
