CCJFG Membership Meetings are structured, yet informal spaces for California criminal justice funders to learn, collaborate and get organized together. The specific content of this meeting is TBD and will be updated as the date approaches. Please contact CACriminalJusticeFunders@ncg.org with suggestions for topics.
NCG's public policy work has had some extra support this summer. We welcomed Arnold Dimas (he/him) a second-year Master of Public Health student at UCLA, to the team as a policy intern.
Navigating the threat of wildfire is an ongoing reality of life in Sonoma County. From 2017 to 2020, fires burned more than 300,000 acres across the county, resulting in devastating losses to ecosystems, homes, communities, and human lives.
In this three-part series, California Criminal Justice Funders Group (CCJFG) funder-members will come together to discuss and identify funding strategies that support alternatives to the Prison Industrial Complex (PIC), including investing in community-led models that address lasting alternatives to punishment and imprisonment. We will learn about concrete funding strategies, hear from movement leaders, highlight CCJFG members’ work, and share practical strategies for supporting work that reimagines different models of community safety and justice.
NCG is pleased to announce the operations team is growing! Deirdre Judge (they/them) joins as the new Operations Coordinator supporting the implementation of NCG's internal and external infrastructure. Deirdre has spent their entire career working against oppressive systems and believes that policies, and their operationalization, are what give teeth to liberatory theorization.
CCJFG is starting a new practice of spotlighting our partners in the movement to end policing, prisons, and criminalization. Our goal is to shine a light on grassroots organizations that may be lesser-known, but are instrumental in moving us towards an abolitionist vision of a more just and resourced world. This month, we are happy to spotlight the work of the Justice Reinvestment Coalition of Alameda County. Know a grassroots organization that deserves a spotlight? Share with us at CACriminalJusticeFunders@ncg.org.
How can you elicit and act on feedback from your grantees and other external stakeholders? For all funders, gathering feedback is a helpful practice to understand how your work is impacting your grantees—and how you can more deeply incorporate the perspectives and experience of your partners and communities you serve. There are a number of tools available to facilitate this feedback loop and listening process. Join this webinar to learn how to listen with intention, gather feedback in a way that does not burden your nonprofit partners, share how you acted on feedback, and how to use tools that will provide insights into how you can improve your work.
