The Y & H Soda Foundation is pleased to announce that Luis Arteaga has joined the Foundation as Senior Program Officer for its Family Economic Success (FES) Program. The FES program improves the economic security of low-income people in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties by supporting employment and job training, financial asset building, and community economic development.
“Luis brings a tremendous amount of nonprofit and philanthropic experience to the Foundation. His extensive career as an advocate and funder of economic and social justice initiatives fits perfectly with the mission of the Foundation and its commitment to advance equity in the East Bay,” says Bob Uyeki, CEO of the Y & H Soda Foundation.
Prior to joining the Y & H Soda Foundation, Luis was a Senior Program Manager at the Levi Strauss Foundation (LSF), where he was responsible for domestic grantmaking addressing HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination, financial empowerment for women and immigrant communities and strategies that build long-term assets for vulnerable populations. Luis also managed LSF’s hometown initiative, Pioneers in Justice, which supports next generation social justice leaders in the San Francisco Bay Area to increase their impact through technology and networked action.
“I am excited to be a part of a Foundation with such a rich legacy of giving in the East Bay. As a long-time resident of both Contra Costa and Alameda Counties, I am committed to helping low-income people find the jobs and resources they need for greater economic security. I also look forward to advancing policy and systems that strengthen the ability of low-income communities to thrive in a changing economy,” added Luis Arteaga.
Before joining LSF, Luis was Director of Emerging Markets at the California Emerging Technology Fund, a $60 million fund established to close the Digital Divide and ensure all communities can harness the power of the Internet for educational and economic advancement. Luis also served as the Executive Director of Latino Issues Forum, a non-profit public policy and advocacy institute, directing a number of groundbreaking policy initiatives at the local, regional and state level. Luis received a Master in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University with a focus on Housing, Transportation and Urban Development. He completed his undergraduate studies at Princeton University with a major in Politics. Luis lives in the East Bay with his wife and two children.
