NCG, SCG & SDG: Working Together on Behalf of California Philanthropy

Monday, August 25, 2014

We are pleased to announce that the three regional associations of grantmakers in California—Northern California Grantmakers, San Diego Grantmakers and Southern California Grantmakers—are embarking on an exciting initiative to collaborate more closely. This will be a journey of exploration that we believe will result in enhanced services for all of you, our members.

We recognize that by working together, we are better. For many years, our organizations have collaborated informally, sharing programs, ideas and opportunities. While we will remain separate organizations, we’ve begun exploring how to strategically improve this connection for more effective member services and efficient operations; to better leverage resources and expertise; as well as to jointly represent the priorities of our members at the state and national levels.

In May, staff and board leadership from each of our three associations met to discuss ways to move this collaboration forward. We have now selected The Giving Practice, a well-regarded team of philanthropy consultants, to work with us in the development of recommendations to increase our connectivity, while recognizing the differences of our three regions’ philanthropic landscapes.  We expect to identify next steps by early 2015.

The NCG, SCG and SDG boards and staffs are very much looking forward to this initiative. We hope you share our excitement and we will keep you informed as efforts progress. Please feel free to share your thoughts with us at anytime.

Thank you for being a part of our network of funders—an exceptional commitment to strengthening your giving as well as strengthening philanthropy as a whole.
