Kicking Off Our Search for a New President and CEO

Thursday, April 9, 2020
by Holly Potter, NCG Board Vice Chair; Chief Communications Officer, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and Lucia Corral Peña, NCG Board Member; Senior Program Officer, Blue Shield of California Foundation

At the end of last year, we announced the departure of Ellen LaPointe as president and CEO of Northern California Grantmakers. When she left the organization on February 28, little did we know how much would change for our organization, our region and the world in the weeks that followed.

Despite all the recent disruption related to COVID-19, the work to find a new leader for the organization has continued. Our search committee is working with Walker and Associates Consulting to recruit the next President and CEO.

As we face the uncertainty of the moment, we are comforted by the way our values are carrying us through our process. Our hope and intent is that the position description reads like a statement of purpose for someone who is looking for an opportunity to tap a happy, talented team and an aligned and energetic board to advance the common good in Northern California and beyond.

We are pleased to launch this national search and invite candidates from within our community and far beyond. We recognize these are unusual times and the remote nature of our work will likely require a good deal of flexibility with non-traditional approaches to the recruitment process.

Right now, our primary goal is to identify and recruit a strong pool of diverse candidates and you can help. We encourage NCG members to share this position description with your network to help find our next transformational leader. If you are interested or have ideas for great candidates, please reach out to Walker and Associates Consulting directly at NCG@walkeraac.com to learn more about the role.

The application process will be open through Friday, May 15, 2020.
