In December, I had the pleasure of attending NCG's Annual Bay Area Philanthropy Holiday Party. The Minna Gallery was a beautiful space, and it was filled with people who spend their days working to improve the lives of others. The atmosphere was festive, celebrating a year of accomplishments and inspiring each other for the challenges in the year ahead. (You can view the event photos here.)
Ellen LaPointe's words resonated with everyone. 2017 will not be a year of "business as usual." As philanthropists, our support will be needed in ways we may not yet be aware of, and together we will navigate these new waters. NCG will continue to work to provide up-to-date resources for its members and serve as a forum to share ideas.
GlobalGiving was thrilled to be able to share our gift cards with those who attended, giving guests a chance to support something that was personally meaningful to them. So far, more than 60 of the gift cards that were distributed have been redeemed. NCG members selected projects across 17 countries, with the top focus areas being education, children, women & girls and hunger. And we received some wonderful feedback as well including:
Thank you! I was amazed to see an organization I volunteered for in Bolivia when I was in college in 2005! So cool, great variety of choices.
I received a $20 Global Giving gift card at an event by Northern California Grantmakers and I was impressed to see so many countries represented on your website! I was able to contribute to a cause I really care about in El Salvador, the country my parents are from--thanks for supporting this country in Central America!
If you haven't redeemed your gift card yet, there are still a couple of weeks left before they expire. If you were not at the event and are interested in getting a gift card to use to explore GlobalGiving and contribute to a project, or if you are interested in purchasing more gift cards or learning more about GlobalGiving programs, please email me firstname.lastname@example.org.
