Calling All Communications Staff: There’s a New Peer Network in Town

Friday, November 14, 2014

That’s right, a peer network for communications staff. In 2015 not only is NCG developing programming specifically for communications staff, we’re hosting quarterly lunch-time salons to provide you with a space to connect with your peers and talk shop.

A communications salon? How did that come about?

I’m glad you asked. Last October at The Communications Network conference in Philadelphia NCG Communications Specialist Marisela Orta ran into one of our members. After a quick conversation the idea to debrief about the conference over lunch was hatched.

So what did you talk about?

Well, we talked about more than just the conference. We talked about our work—the challenges many of us face as the only communications staff at our organizations.

As we suspected, we’re not alone. And that’s why we want to continue getting together.

Hence the quarterly salons, right?

That’s right!

Think of these salons as an opportunity to connect with your peers, to test your ideas, and to brainstorm solutions. And since we all have to eat lunch anyways, why not come have lunch with your communications peers?

So how do I sign up?

Well, you can just show up. But we prefer to know who’s coming so we can accommodate everyone. Just register for the salon on NCG’s website. The first Communications Salon of 2015 is Thursday, January 29th.

And I just bring my lunch?

That’s right. Bring it or buy it. FYI, Thursday is the day two food trucks park outside our office on Spear Street. And there are lots of other places nearby to grab your lunch. You bring your lunch and NCG will provide the drinks.

We hope to see you in January!
