NCG's Blog

Thanks to everyone who participated in NCG's 2015 Annual Conference yesterday! Check out the social media summary of attendee's tweets.

NCG’s 2015 Annual Conference is right around the corner. I can’t think of a better way to get to know you all—by coming together to discuss the issues impacting the communities in which we work and live.

When Dan Pallotta’s 2013 TedTalk,“The Way We Think About Charity is Dead Wrong” first made the rounds, with it came a resurgence of a familiar conversation about how to cultivate healthy nonprofit organizations and avoid the nonprofit starvation cycle. So what’s a grantmaker to do?

Ever go to a program or conference that’s chock full of interesting information on an important issue, but you still leave wondering to yourself, “So now what?” NCG's conference PhilTalks are designed to help answer that question. Here's what you can expect when you go to a PhilTalk.

Earlier this year NCG put out a call for PhilTalk proposals. What’s a PhilTalk? A PhilTalk is a 15-minute presentation that explores an idea, solution or approach to a challenge we are confronting in our philanthropic work. Think TedTalk, but for philanthropy. We’re pleased to announce the selected PhilTalks for our upcoming Annual Conference.

Hello! I am delighted to be joining Northern California Grantmakers at this moment in time. NCG has a long and distinguished pedigree. Many of the leading thinkers in philanthropy founded and have helped shape our organization over the years. We have a history of achievement about which we all can be proud.

At the 2015 Annual Conference, attendees will have six Morning Breakouts to choose from—each offering an opportunity to investigate how the changes happening in our communities are playing out in a specific issue area. This year's Morning Breakouts will focus on displacement, education, health, justice, sustainability, and workforce.

How can you leverage the lessons of successful companies in your grantmaking, community engagement, and citizenship? TCC Group's Thomas Knowlton will share their new framework for thinking about how to assess, develop and execute a successful corporate citizenship approach. Learn the strategies to take your corporate community engagement to the next level!

Any discussion about the impact of dynamic forces on our communities will always benefit from the perspective of our local government officials. That’s why NCG is pleased to announce our 2015 Annual Conference Lunch Plenary speakers.
