We recently lost a powerhouse in our field. Gwen Walden was the Senior Managing Director at Arabella Advisors' San Francisco office. She had a long history in our community and sector serving on the Boards of the East Bay Community Foundation, the Surdna Foundation, and the Breast Cancer Fund.
Still, it was worth noting, as the last two years were unlike anything professionally in the 28 years that proceeded it. A global pandemic, climate crises, economic destabilization, and assaults on democratic institutions occurring during a racial reckoning will have that effect. That said, I am more convinced than ever that I have the right job to do. We have the right job to do at NCG.
NCG is pleased to announce the operations team is growing! Deirdre Judge (they/them) joins as the new Operations Coordinator supporting the implementation of NCG's internal and external infrastructure. Deirdre has spent their entire career working against oppressive systems and believes that policies, and their operationalization, are what give teeth to liberatory theorization.
NCG is thrilled to announce that Qurratulain “Q” Sajid (she/they) has joined the team as the Senior Director for Public Affairs. President and CEO Dwayne S. Marsh had a chat with Q about the new role and prioritizing values within our work. We’ve learned at ZFF that legacy is not synonymous with complacency. Rather than working in conflict with our history, the changes we’ve made have clarified our purpose, offered opportunities to deepen our impact, and introduced new possibilities for our future.

NCG is pleased to share that Viridiana Romero (she/her) is joining the team as the first-ever Manager of Strategic Initiatives. Viridiana is no stranger to the field and brings a breadth of experience from the nonprofit, philanthropic, and private sectors.
NCG is pleased to share that our capacity to support donors and trustees is growing! Nicole Garzino (she/her) joins as the new Senior Manager for Donor & Trustee Programs. Nicole brings over twenty years of experience in nonprofit management, program creation, as well as strategic planning, and Board development.
This is not the New Year’s message I was hoping to write. There was a moment this fall when things started feeling like they might just fall into place. We saw progress on the pandemic, and it felt like 2022 might herald a fresh beginning. But reality intervened, as it tends to do.
NCG is pleased to announce our team is growing with the new addition of Melissa Nop (she/her), our Manager of Equity and Practice. Melissa has worked in philanthropy since 2017 and was most recently at Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees as a Program Associate.
