DESCRIPTION

The Kapor Center is a family of innovative and groundbreaking organizations that pursue innovative strategies to leverage capital and technology for positive, progressive impact. We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to help oversee general accounting operations by verifying and reconciling our financial transactions.

Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures, and reconciling balance sheet accounts.

The Kapor Center encompasses a private foundation, a for-profit investment partnership, and a non-profit 501(c)(3), plus supporting corporate entities. As a result, the work spans multiple platforms and strategies, and is organized into the following core areas:

Kapor Center -- Diversifying Tech

Through the development of innovative partnerships, programs, and cross-sector forums, Kapor Center is working to increase the presence and viability of underrepresented people of color and women of all backgrounds in the tech sector as producers, entrepreneurs, financiers, and thought leaders.

Kapor Center oversees a unique community space which includes meeting space for mission-aligned organizations and companies, office space for the center’s staff and partners and a restaurant. Our new building allows for close collaboration between Kapor Center’s many different programs and its community partners, all of which are dedicated to the empowerment of low-income and underrepresented communities.

Kapor Capital -- Venture Capital for Social Impact

Kapor Capital is our venture capital investment arm. We invest in seed stage tech startups that generate both economic returns and positive social impact. SMASH -- STEM Education for All

SMASH is a signature initiative of the Kapor Center, committed to eliminating the barriers faced by underrepresented people of color in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and fostering their untapped talent for the advancement of our nation. SMASH operates as a separate 501(c)(3) and is supported administratively by the Kapor Center.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to help oversee general accounting operations by verifying and reconciling our financial transactions.

Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures, and reconciling balance sheet accounts.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Accounts Payable Processing
    • Nexonia and Bill.com payment processing and approvals
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Deposit checks through Remote Deposit and enter invoices
    • Maintain aging AR schedules 
  • Monthly credit card reconciliations
  • Support staff in Nexonia
  • Following up with staff on past due credit card reports
  • Training and adding new staff in Nexonia
  • Review and reconciliation in accounting software for all companies
  • Correspond with Bank of America customer service and maintaining a tracking log of issues/solutions
  • Issue credit cards to new staff, resolve issues around fraud and reissuing cards
  • Revenue Reconciliation
    • Working with non-profit to ensure revenue entered in Donor Perfect matches our records
    • Investigating discrepancies and making correcting entries if necessary
    • Working with SMASH staff to understand how grant documentation works to ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Audit Support
    • Assisting with PBC requests
    • AP documentation
    • Revenue Reconciliation Reports
  • Weekly Cash Updates with Recommendations
    • Reviewing all bank accounts to send report to CFO with recommendations regarding cash movement and whether a large cash transaction is happening that the team needs to be aware of.
  • AP/AR Aging reconciled to Balance Sheet
    • Creating report in Intacct that shows variances and ensuring accuracy
  • Maintain Bill.com/Nexonia AP
    • Crossed trained with Bill.com and Nexonia so that errors that happen can be fixed
    • Ensuring that system is syncing correctly across Intacct/Nexonia/Bill.com
  • 1099 Maintenance
    • Ensuring that vendors are entered with W-9 information
    • Maintaining compliance with annual 1099-Misc distributions
  • Monthly Close Duties
    • Work closely with Controller to meet monthly close deadlines
    • Assist in other accounting and related projects, as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications & Skills (including preferred):

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience in the capacity of a senior accountant that includes closing of books, managing intercompany reconciliations, doing journal entries, bank reconciliations, etc
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience with enterprise level accounting software. Preferred experience with Intacct
  • Excited about using new systems, and ability to navigate between them; we use Nexonia, Bill.com, Intacct and Adaptive Insights
  • Prefer that candidate has family office experience and/or multi-entity experience
