Understanding who is funding what and where has never been easier or more fun! Join us for an interactive tutorial on how to use NCG’s powerful new data tool Foundation Maps - California.
In 2015, NCG launched an important partnership with Foundation Center that lets you visualize and drill down on grantmaking data in California and beyond. Through your NCG membership, you can now use the Foundation Maps – California tool to slice and dice grantmaking information from members of SCG, NCG, and SDG.
In this tutorial led by Foundation Center staff, you'll learn how to cut grants data from more than 200,000 grants made by 250+ funders by recipient, grant size, funding focus, type of giving, and more.
You'll also explore ways to leverage data to find natural collaborators for your work, scan the funding landscape, and even identify funding gaps.
This session will be hands-on and each user should bring a laptop.
Below are just a few examples of the kinds of questions Maps can answer:
- Who is engaging in K-12 educational initiatives focused on low-income populations?
- Which funders are focused on foster care in California?
- How can I figure out where my foundation fits into the local funding ecosystem in particular program areas?
Participants will also be able to contribute ideas to help shape the next phase of this mapping tool. We encourage you to talk to your colleagues and bring specific questions in order to explore how the map can help inform your work.
