Earlier this year Northern California Grantmakers in partnership with Bay Area funders produced the Status of Bay Area Nonprofit Space & Facilities which provided baseline data on the displacement of nonprofits in the region. This report demonstrates the scope of the issue across Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Following publication of the report, several briefings were held and participating nonprofits recommended solutions to the nonprofit displacement crisis. Those recommendations were published in an Addendum to the report released over the summer and provide a comprehensive set of solutions that cut across policy, funding, advocacy and development of sustainable space.
NCG, in partnership with the Northern California Community Loan Fund, has assembled a multi-sector working group comprised of representatives from foundations, government bodies, nonprofits, business, and other stakeholders. The working group’s goal is to prioritize and facilitate action around the recommended solutions.
As part of the development the ongoing effort to address this important issue, two convenings for nonprofits from the 6 Bay Area counties will be held. This event will take place in Oakland. We will share priorities that emerged from the briefings and provide feedback on the solutions now being pursued.
