Breakout Session | A Moment or A Movement: Is Philanthropy in it for the Long Haul?

In this session, we're focusing on how philanthropy has responded to the call to action for increased and sustainable investment in and support of Black-led organizing, Black-led organizations, and Black communities overall. We will have the opportunity to learn more about the California Black Freedom Fund, the Black-Led Movement Fund, and the Black Liberation Pooled Fund, and discuss why we center Black-led organizing and communities in our efforts to end systemic anti-Black racism.

This session will interrogate how white supremacy demands an often-divisive approach to only fund individual racial groups depending on which community is experiencing a public crisis at that moment. We will also explore our individual and collective roles in this moment, examine what is needed to transform our systems and leverage the positions we each hold to the impact, challenges, and sustainability of funds for Black organizing, communities, and issues. The panelists will help deepen our understanding of the Black-led movement building ecosystem and the various funding and investments needed to strengthen the infrastructure and capacity of Black communities.
