The Humanities and the Professions Reading and Discussion Group was formed following NCG's 1987 Annual Meeting and uses great literary texts to examine complex social and moral dilemmas. NCG book club members meet approximately five times a year for a facilitated discussion and the opportunity to engage with one another through a shared love of literature.
The Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen
"A profound, startling, and beautifully crafted debut novel, The Sympathizer is the story of a man of two minds, someone whose political beliefs clash with his individual loyalties. In dialogue with but diametrically opposed to the narratives of the Vietnam War that have preceded it, this novel offers an important and unfamiliar new perspective on the war: that of a conflicted communist sympathizer." — Grove Atlantic
