The Bay Area’s shelter in place orders have been in place for more than a month, and the strain of our new reality is being felt by everyone. However, our extremely low income community members are facing the most severe impacts from the social distancing orders, shuttered workplaces and schools. Families who were already severely rent burdened and living paycheck to paycheck before this crisis, are facing significant hardship now and are at greater risk of losing their housing and endangering the health of their families. Prior to COVID-19, the number of people experiencing homelessness in the Bay Area was at crisis levels. While short term interventions, like eviction moratoriums, have been put in place they must be linked with ongoing homelessness prevention strategies to support our most vulnerable community members.

Join us for a discussion with leaders in the field about the research, needs on the ground, policy opportunities, and actions philanthropy can take to ensure lasting stable housing for everyone in our community.
