NCG's Arts Loan Fund (ALF) Steering Committee is comprised of a diverse range of Bay Area funders, who are committed to the Arts. The committee convenes every four weeks to discuss issues impacting the Arts in Northern California and to review loan applications to determine awards to nonprofit arts organizations in the Bay Area.

Thursday, November 8, 2018 - 10:30am

Arts education has enjoyed some key policy wins in recent years, among them formal recognition that federal Title I funds may be used to support arts education, passage of legislation that created teaching credentials in dance and theater in California, and passage of SB 933, the Arts for Every Student Incentive Grant Program. The latter, incorporated into the 2018-19 budget that Governor Brown signed in June 2018, provides $44 million in new state funds for enhancing visual and performing arts education or expanding access to physical and mental health care in California schools.

In this session, three arts education leaders will offer news and current strategies to advance equitable arts learning for all students in the state and nation. They also will share lessons learned by a major California arts funder that has made a sustained investment in arts education policy and advocacy.

Join the Arts Loan Fund for an exciting conversation on funding culturally specific and immigrant communities in the Bay Area! The panel will explore the importance of creative place making and place keeping. In the midst of so many changes in our communities, how do we as grantmakers honor the distinct characteristics and soul of the neighborhoods and cities we serve?

The program will also hone in on the issues and trends in culturally specific work that funders should be paying attention to. We will dive into the needs of artists and cultural organizations and strategies to further the work in order to better accommodate current realities.

The panel brings personal and professional expertise in working with culturally specific communities and include backgrounds in government, philanthropy, and non-profits.
