Program Information
Northern California Grantmakers invites you to explore the emerging role of film in philanthropy. Now, more than ever, the power of film is being harnessed to drive dialogue on social issues. Foundations are increasingly tapping into cinema's power of storytelling and imagery to further their philanthropic missions. The recent trend of funders partnering with filmmakers to shine light on ignored or emerging social issues is now a force that deserves attention.
What role does philanthropy play in partnering with media makers? How do we use the power of film to show the diverse individuals, stakeholders and communities we care about? What are the ways that film can serve our broader missions and programmatic goals?
This All Member Gathering is intended for grantmakers in all program areas. Through a series of panels it will explore the potential of film to educate and inspire audiences through expert presentations and dialogue among participants. The program will also included film clips from several projects that have demonstrated high artistic standards and the capacity to not only help us see the world more fully, but to also participate more actively in its improvement.
Come join us to:
- Learn more about the effectiveness of media as a resource in reaching target audiences and constituencies;
- See examples of successful collaborations between funder and grantee;
- Learn more about practical perspectives on what kinds of outcomes and contributions media projects can generate;
- Join a candid discussion about challenges to funding media; and
- Create a process for sharing knowledge and experience among peers that are currently supporting media.
